(L to R) Mike D'Acunti, Joe Gismondi, Ralph Caccavale, & Steve Miller
Joe Gismondi, a four year Whaler, leads the 16 Navy Whalers on their path to Omaha Nebraska. Joe is batting .591 after 8 games. Joe leads the team with 17 total bases, including a team leading 9 singles, 4 doubles, and 6 runs batted in. "Joe is tearing the cover off the ball and he's not just hitting singles. He's hitting balls hard in the gap, hitting doubles and knocking in runs," said Coach Mike Herbst.
Joe had a very difficult offseason in which he lost his grandfather whom he and his brother Mike (14u) were very close to. Joe continued to work as hard as he could, putting on over 15 pounds in the offseason, which has had a direct effect on his power at the plate. Throughout all that has happened Joe has maintained perfect attendance to all Whalers events.
Joe has been named a team captain along with Ralph Caccavale & Steve Miller. The three players have a combined 11 years of Whalers service between them.
"On behalf of the Whalers organization, we'd like to thank Joe, Mike, and Joe Gismondi Sr. for their unbelievable commitment to the Whalers organization. The Gismondi family represents everything that the Whalers organization stands for. Determination, heart, and grit. We're proud to call the Gismondi family a true Whaler family," said team owner Brandon Kurz.
